Hatitude Salutes Elsie Williams, a Black History Month Celebration

            Elgin, Texas -- City of Elgin sponsored Hatitude a salute to Elsie Williams on Saturday, February 3, 2024.  With sponsorship provided by Firewild Events and Catering and the Elgin Sub District Ministers Wives and Widows, the event recognized Elsie for her decades of dedicated volunteer service to the community.  Sonja Wright shared the history of hats in the black church and its roots in scripture. The audience joined in singing Lift Every Voice and Sing, and enjoyed featured ensemble performances by Byron Cardwell, Rev. Lucious McShan and Byron Mitchell.  Mt Carmel Baptist Church, St John District BLH Bradshaw, NAACP Branch 6174, Juneteenth Festival Committee, Elgin Cares, and the City of Elgin recognized the impact of Elsie’s dedicated work. Elsie also volunteers with Elgin Ministerial Alliance, Elgin Subdistrict, St John District Youth, South Central Women’s Ministry, MBGCT and others.  Mayor McShan provided a Proclamation recognizing Hatitude and Elsie which was read by Councilmember Love.  Special thanks to Ms. Wright for sharing the history of Hats at the program, provided here in its entirety.
